XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi

To continue the Series - XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia released as Souvenir Sheet on "Tourism in the Black Sea coast of Russia" It was released on 27.09.2011 in 6 languages. The Souvenir sheet has 4 stamps with tabs at the sides which has the description of the stamp. The English version of the same is shown below:

The SS depicts Krasnaya Polyana ski resort at the Black Sea coast, the marine terminal building, the Romanesque watch tower and Volkonosky Dolmen, which is a megalithic landmark.

Living people to be honored on U.S. postage stamps.

The U.S. Postal Service announced recently that it is ending its longstanding rule that stamps cannot feature people who are still alive. It hopes to boost its revenue has asked the public for suggestions as to who will be the first living person to be featured on a stamp.

Iceland and Malta Joint Issue

On 15th September 2011 a joint stamp was issued by Iceland and Malta.


 Iceland and Malta are the northernmost and southernmost islands in Europe. Fishing has been the main source of revenue for centuries on these two islands. Iceland Post and Malta Post are now collaborating on a joint stamp issue occasioned by this relationship with fishing towns as the motif. The town of Húsavík is the motif of the Icelandic minisheet while the Maltese one depicts the town of Mgarr, Gozo.

Supply Ships - Pitcairn Islands

 Pitcairn Islands released as set of 4 stamp on 31st August 2011 on Supply Ships.

Pitcairn’s remoteness means it is dependent on small supply ships to provide a lifeline to the community.  Since the withdrawal of the Blue Star Line in 2003, the residents have relied on the smaller vessels that ply their way from Mangareva in French Polynesia, some 500 km away.

Ancient City and Fortress Buildings of Derbent.

On 13th September 2011, Russia released a stamp on Ancient City and Fortress Buildings of Derbent.

Derbent - city-museum under the open sky, won the 1989 status of the State Historical and Architectural Museum-Preserve. Its territory is a complex of stone fortifications from Naryn-Kala fortress, built by the Persians in the VI century. The castle is a magnificent architectural monuments belonging to different periods of development of the city.

Contemporary Art of Russia

Russia released a series of 6 stamps depicting the works of 6 famous Artists on 12.09.2011.

 Alexey Adamov - landscape, seascape, the author of hundreds of papers on the Sea of Azov, as well as the nature of the southern and central Russia. The artist is actively involved in Russian and international exhibitions, his work is represented in the expositions and exhibitions, on display at the Russian and European galleries.

Nikolai Bohr - a painter, Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation, People's Artist of the Russian Federation. Author of genre paintings, portraits, landscapes, monumental objects. His works are in major national museums, corporate and private collections in Russia and abroad.
 
Dmitri Zilina - People's Artist of the RSFSR, member of Russian Academy of Arts, was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples. The participant of Russian and foreign exhibitions, the author of numerous scene paintings, portraits, landscapes, still lifes, drawings. The artist's works are in museums and private collections.

Alexander Iulianovich Rukavishnikov - sculptor, People's Artist of Russia, was awarded the Order of Friendship and "Badge of Honor". His works in the genres of easel and monumental composition, sculptural portraits, paintings, drawings, medal art, installations are kept in the Russian and foreign collections.

Tahir Teymurovich Salakhov - People's Artist of USSR, Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation. Author of a number of portraits, landscapes, still lifes, large multi-figure paintings, graphic works. His paintings are represented in the largest Russian and foreign museums, are found in many public and private collections around the world.

Vladimir Yakovlevich Yukina - one of the largest landscape of the last century, Honored Artist of the RSFSR People's Artist of the Russian Federation. He was a founding member of the artistic group "Vladimir school of landscape painting." His paintings are in Russian and foreign museums and private collections.

China's Gift to South Sudan.


A set of 3 stamps, South Sudan flag, national emblem and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement leader John Garang were printed in China and presented to South Sudan as Gift.It is said that it was about 100000 stamps were printed.


The Chinese Embassy it was presented as a token and symbol of national sovereignty, and the Chinese people's deep friendship to the people of South Sudan.A Communique was also signed between China and South Sudan the same day, the formal establishment of diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level.
